About Mimo:
My birth name is Mimo, and I am “The Fresh Monkey.”
I was born in February of 1965 to Mimi and Momo in the Central Park Zoo on 5th avenue in Manhattan, NY. My parents were always very content living at the zoo as it has always been considered quite posh to be living on Central and 5th avenue. It’s really a lovely area with great shopping and some of the finest restaurants in the world. Needless to say, I grew up with a silver banana in my mouth.
As I broke into adolescence I was a restless little primate and was always talking back and somehow always getting into some sort of trouble. At age 13 the zoo keeper gave me the nickname of “The Fresh Monkey” and it wasn’t long before the name traveled throughout the entire zoo and Mimo was quickly forgotten.
In April of 1980, the zoo signed an agreement with the City of New York to renovate and operate the zoo for the Department of Parks and Recreation. Animal and exhibit experts and architects led the project. When demolition of most of the buildings began in the winter of 1983 my parents were struck by falling debris and killed. I wasn’t content with all the changes going on at the zoo and it was a constant reminder to me of what had happened to my parents. I was sad and needed to make a change. I decided to move to a more tropical climate in Boca Raton, FL. I was quite pleased with my choice as I always feel better when sporting a great tan. I lived in Florida in the winters and East Hampton, NY for summers and did this for 24 years while cultivating my love of fine food and wine.
In October of 2006 I was ready to give up all the hustle and bustle and decided that I was ready to live a more simple life. I opted for Warsaw, Indiana - No, I didn’t just close my eyes, spin around until I was dizzy and then stick my finger on the map! I actually have friends here that I met when I first moved to Florida.
At the time it seemed like a logical choice, really.
It didn’t take long in Warsaw, for me to grow hungry and bored. When I ventured out into town I was having trouble locating food products that I would typically eat. I couldn’t even get a good hot pastrami with swiss! Although I adjusted to my environment I grew tired of the same old, same old everyday and yearned for those products that I grew up with. After all, you can take the Monkey out of the city but you can’t take the city out of the Monkey!
One year later a gourmet market was created in the little town of Warsaw, Indiana and I am pleased to introduce to you for your indulgence, “The Fresh Monkey Gourmet Market”…Taste No Evil
